What Happens During a Discovery Flight?
A discovery flight is about 30 to 60 minutes long. Before takeoff, you will meet with one of our certified flight instructors. They will explain what to expect and answer any questions you have. Then, you will head out to the airplane, usually a Cessna 172, which is a common training aircraft.
Here is what to expect:
- You will sit in the pilot’s seat
- The instructor will go over the controls with you
- You will help taxi the airplane to the runway
- Once in the air, you will get to fly the airplane under supervision
- The instructor will land the airplane for you
This is not a flight where you just sit and watch. You are actually flying with help from an instructor. It is safe, fun, and a great way to try flying before signing up for lessons.
Who Can Take a Discovery Flight?
Almost anyone can take a discovery flight. You must be at least 14 years old to log flight time toward your pilot license. However, even younger students can still enjoy the experience. Many parents bring their teens to see if aviation could be a good fit.
You do not need a medical certificate. You do not need any books or equipment. You just show up and fly.
